Eyelid Retraction. The upper and lower eyelids are unable to close completely due to paralysis of the muscle that closes the eye. This can be due to a Bell’s Palsy or prior brain surgery. This can lead to dryness of the surface of the eye or tearing. This can be corrected surgically by tightening the lower eyelid and inserting a small gold weight under the skin in the upper eyelid to allow complete closure of the eyelids.
